Hey Look, I'm Keeping the Tower Upright!

Another famous city in Tuscany is Pisa! Home to the famous Leaning Tower, Pisa attracts tourists from all over the world, trying to snag the perfect picture with the tower. We have seen it all: people holding up the tower with their arms or legs, kissing the tower, kicking the tower, you name it and someone has tried it. We have seen many successful pictures with the tower and more than too many not so successful attempts to push the tower upright.

But, besides the Tower, what else does Pisa have to offer? To be honest, not much. Aside from the Leaning Tower there really is not much to do there. I do not recommend spending more than an afternoon in Pisa. It is an easy train ride into Pisa from Florence or anywhere else in Tuscany and makes for a perfect day trip.

What I recommend:

1. Climb the tower: Although it is steep and a lot of steps, it is definitely worth it! You will get awesome panoramic views of all of Pisa from the top! If you choose not to climb the tower, there wont be much else to do in the area beside take pictures.

2. Buy tickets in advance: If you want to climb the tower, which you should do if you do, buy your tickets online in advance. They only let a certain amount of people in at a time so you don't want to find yourself in Pisa without a ticket because you may not be able to go inside the tower.

3. Wear comfortable shoes: The climb is almost 300 steps to the top and it is steep and narrow. I do not recommend doing that in flip flops or heels!!

4. Don't bring valuables: You cannot take bags into the tower, so you will be required to leave your bags or purses in a locker. All you need for the climb up is your phone/camera!

5. Walk around the entire base of the tower: If your goal is to get the most Instagram-able picture with the tower, you need patience! It is inevitable that there will be crowds at the tower. Everyone stops to take pictures. You will find people standing on poles, laying in the grass, whatever they can do to get their dream photo with the Leaning Tower. Mine was a handstand against the tower, and after more attempts then I want to admit, I DID IT!! We walked around the base numerous times to find the best angles and least crowded areas. The back by the Cathedral was actually the least busy and had a grassy area you can take pictures in.(see photos below) Other grassy areas in the front of the tower are roped off and for some reason it is much more crowded over there!
